Michael Monroe from his ancestor: “Everything falls into place”

Known as the frontman of Hanoi Rocks Michael Monroe gets to know his family roots in the Secrets of My Family section. Having seen the world, Monroe, who left Helsinki, has lived in Stockholm, London and New York. Now he has settled in Turku. The rock legend sees his hometown with new eyes with the program.

Monroe gets to know his ancestor, who has been influential in the literal sense of the word in 18th-century Turku.

Jakob Gadolin was bishop of Turku and a quadruple professor. The hardworking Gadolin was a professor of mathematics, physics, astronomy and theology.

– Jakob represented the view that, for example, when there are various miracles in the Bible, he set out to look for scientific explanations for them. However, he admitted that not even science can necessarily answer everything, maybe there are things where God is missing the game anyway. At the same time, he called for everything to be questioned, but at the same time a certain kind of humility from the naturalist, Monroe is described.

– Yeah, yeah, there are also things that can’t be explained. I totally agree, Monroe underlines.

Monroe is impressed.

– All the while, the feeling that this has been an introduction, that I have come here and walk these streets, is becoming stronger. Turku will probably take on a whole new identity for me now, Monroe describes her feelings.

Presenter Marja Hintikka tells Monroe more about her ancestor.

– He rose to become a leading figure in spiritual and economic culture. He also founded the Finnish Music Society. This same club has also founded Ruisrock, Hintikka says.

Monroe points out that she has played at the event as a “16 years old every summer”.

– This can not be true. This will only get better. Everything fits in perfectly, Monroe rejoices.
