Michael “Mike” McCartney turned 80 on January 8th. However, he couldn’t celebrate this birthday with abandon. Paul McCartney’s brother, also known under the pseudonym Mike McGear, was in the hospital at the time. He has now been released and shared his health status with X.
For his birthday, the photographer and musician posted a picture of himself at the age of 22. He wrote: “I’m 80 now… unbelievable! And I haven’t changed at all! You won’t believe how I spent my 80th!”

Fans speculated in the comments about what McCartney might have been doing that day. “Was he sitting on a car?” someone suggested, referring to the shared photo. Another person speculated, “Lunch on Crosby Beach.”

“I already mentioned that you wouldn’t believe HOW I spent my 80th birthday,” McCartney posted again a week later, solving his mystery: “The glorious celebrations were spent at our local hospital !” The 80-year-old shared a picture of his patient bracelet. In his contribution he also thanked the nurses and doctors for their work. “Fortunately, I’m healthy again now,” he wrote in conclusion. However, what exactly he had now remains unclear. His famous brother Paul has not yet commented on the hospital stay of his brother, who is one and a half years younger than him.
