There was one person who made proper preparation for shooting a scene “impossible.”

Michael J. Fox made a name for himself as Marty McFly in “Back to the Future.” It’s only logical that he is currently publishing his memoirs entitled “Future Boy” – based on the original title of the trilogy “Back to the Future”. In the autobiography, which was published in English on October 14th, he reports a lot about his time on the set of the sci-fi series, which was first released in 1985. It also tells you who caused unrest during filming – although not in the way you would initially expect.

Crispin Glover is the troublemaker

George McFly, Marty’s sometimes unhappy father, is played by Crispin Glover in the first part. After his breakthrough, the US actor was often booked thanks to this part – among other things, he appeared in “Charlie’s Angels” (2000) and in “Alice in Wonderland”, which was released in 2010. But during the filming of the 80s cult film, Glover became known primarily for causing “friction” on the set, according to Michael J. Fox in his memoirs.

George McFly, the wanderer

The actor explains what he specifically means by this based on a “Back to the Future” scene that he had to film with Crispin Glover and in which his co-star did not want to stop at the planned point: “As Crispin approached the camera, he was supposed to stay in a path between the clothesline and me. But Crispin had other plans. I suspect that he saw George as a wanderer, a free spirit who was looking for something Moved randomly – in this case perpendicular to the camera.”

Michael J. Fox’s book goes on to say that the team responded to such actions by setting up “a miniature kraal of sandbags and C-tripods” “to force Crispin to adhere to the requirements of the shot.”

Great actor, difficult methods

Still, Fox noted in his autobiography that he “loved working with Glover,” whose role as George McFly was recast for the sequels Back to the Future II (1989) and Back to the Future III (1990). “His talent was undeniable, even if his methods sometimes caused friction.”

However, this friction did not stop Fox from paying respect to his colleague: “Nevertheless, I respected the way he remained faithful to George (as he understood and embodied him).”

Preparing for a scene with Glover “impossible”

Last but not least, Michael J. Fox’s memoir states: “I knew Crispin Glover before Back to the Future. I wouldn’t say I was prepared to play with him, though – it’s impossible to prepare for Crispin. With Chris Lloyd, I had no idea what he was up to. Neither he nor Crispin ever did the same thing the same way twice.”

How Crispin Glover feels about these statements about himself is unclear. He has not yet commented publicly on this.
