They had been fishing for squid and sole for three weeks. The atmosphere was cheerful, because they would sail back home today to spend the holidays with their family. But when they pulled in the nets one last time, things went wrong. A cable snapped and fisherman Michael (23) was hit with a metal beam and pulley weighing about three tons. He was instant dead. “The fishing world is small. I received condolences via Facebook before I knew what had happened,” says his widow Lindsey (30).
