Incredible but true: the Eurovision couple Mia & Dion also sang out of tune during their second live performance. So bad that they literally made a presenter of SBS 6 cry.
Duncan Laurence, AvroTros and the Eurovision team should be ashamed of themselves, according to Patty Brard. With the harrowing stories from the RTL 4 show Better Than Ever in mind, she thinks it is almost criminal that Mia Nicolai and Dion Cooper have been put forward as the Dutch entry for the European song festival.
Wrongly sung again
Mia and Dion turn out not to be ready for live performances at all. After their false warbling at a Eurovision party in Madrid, they also did poorly last night during a similar party in Amsterdam. Even before their careers have even started, Mia and Dion have already become the national laughing stock.
It’s starting to look more and more like their bond with former winner Duncan Laurence is really the only reason why they were sent to the song festival. These people are technically not singing at all ready to climb the European stage. “Really sad and a bit angry too,” tweets RTL Boulevard presenter Luuk Ikink.
‘Hope for the best’
Luuk finds it scandalous that Mia and Dion are thrown to the lions like this. “I think Mia and Dion are great artists, but they should have performed together for a year first. On many stages, getting used to each other, singing a lot and if it feels good on stage, go to the AvroTros with Duncan with the song. Hope for the best is it now.”
Aran Bade, reporter for Boulevard, attended the performance in Amsterdam last night. He says: “Yes, totally agree. Now they have to get on the biggest stage in Europe in a very short time, without experience. Inexperience gets in the way. This will be a long way to Liverpool. The guidance needs to be better.”
Presenter cries
Mia and Dion have literally caused a crying TV presenter with their second false appearance. Dyantha Brooks did not keep it dry in Shownieuws late last night. “I’m just… This is amazement. This is bewilderment. This is all emotions mixed up. Tension, sadness.”
Dyantha later felt a little guilty about that. “I laughed a lot at the video, but it is of course very sad. We have to make sure these people stay upright.”
‘God damn it!’
Patty Brard, who herself has sung for years in the girl group Luv’, finds it very bad that Mia and Dion are not being protected against themselves. “It will never get better with these people, will it? Go god damn those people or don’t send them when they’re ready.”
Colleague Bart Ettekoven is done with it. “You can’t keep saying that this is because of the earphones and the technology. We really have to fear for Liverpool.”
Could it be the nerves? That is not to be hoped, because there will also be those at the actual Eurovision Song Contest. “Then you don’t want to hear them at all.”
