Mia & Dion provide lowest ratings since indianentooi-Joan

The Eurovision couple Mia & Dion is responsible for the least watched semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest, featuring the performance of the Netherlands since Joan ‘indianentooi’ Franka.

The unpopular singing duo Mia & Frank performed yesterday during the first semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest. More than 2.1 million people (40 percent market share) saw how our country did not achieve a place in the grand final for the first time since 2015. According to experts, this viewing figure indicates that the song festival was not really alive in our country this year.

Mia & Frank disappoint

Tina Nijkamp points out that this is the least watched semi-final of the song festival since 2012, when Joan ‘Indian dress’ Franka attracted five thousand fewer viewers. The most watched semi-finals since then were those with Anouk (3.8 million), Trijntje Oosterhuis (3.4 million), The Common Linnets (3.2 million) and Duncan Laurence (3.1 million).

The ratings connoisseur writes on her channel: “What a disappointment for everyone. The conclusion is therefore that the Eurovision Song Contest is popular, but given the enormous attention on TV (for many weeks, including daily updates from Liverpool), on the radio, in the newspapers and on websites, etc., the viewing figures are relatively low.”

Particularly fun for media?

Normally, a program that receives so much publicity would score much higher, says Tina. “What can we conclude from the fairly low viewing figures in relation to the enormous amount of media attention? That apparently mainly people who work in the media think that the whole of the Netherlands is interested in the Eurovision Song Contest.”

That turns out to be quite disappointing in reality, says Tina. “Question: has the Eurovision Song Contest not become too much of a party for the media itself?”

Bad Leco score

The most disappointing score compared to the Eurovision Song Contest was that of the Leco van Zadelhoff show The Interior Project VIPS on RTL 4. “That continues to score badly and is being overtaken by RTL 5, among others,” says RTL Boulevard ratings expert Joost Maiburg in his channel.

He continues: “The channel is overtaken by no fewer than five other channels. Fortunately for RTL, the final is next week.”
