Jasmine Dumile, widow of the late rap legend MF Doom, has opened up about the cause of her husband’s death in 2020, which has remained unknown to the public to date. According to his wife, MF Doom, real name Daniel Dumile, died of a rare intolerance to a blood pressure medication called Quincke’s edema.
The surprising news of the British-American rapper’s passing shocked hip-hop fans on December 31, 2020. Jasmine Dumile shared the news on Twitter at the time, stating that her husband had passed away two months earlier, but that she had kept it a secret until then. MF Doom was 49 years old.
Jasmine Dumile revealed the cause of her husband’s death to the British local newspaper “LeedsLive”. Accordingly, MF Doom did not tolerate ACE inhibitors that were prescribed for him because of high blood pressure. The enigmatic rapper, who always hid his face behind a mask, also struggled with kidney disease. After two doses of the blood pressure medication, his body had an allergic reaction and his airways became swollen.
Despite being admitted to St. James Hospital in Leeds, the Dumile family’s new home at the time, his condition deteriorated rapidly. Only a few days later he passed away alone in his hospital room. Jasmine was not allowed to stay by her partner’s side due to the Corona pandemic. The “ALL CAPS” rapper’s widow accuses staff at St. James Hospital of negligence. An investigation into the case is still ongoing.
MF Doom, who released music under various stage names, was best known for his unique rap style. Over the years he has collaborated with various other hip-hop greats, including on the album MADVILLIAN with Madlib and with Gnarls Barkley’s Danger Mouse. One song even made it onto US President Joe Biden’s inauguration playlist. In commemoration of the artist’s life’s work, a street was named after him in his adopted home of New York City.
