As Spanish media consistently report, he is said to have been running towards the substitutes’ bench towards the end of the game when, according to witness statements, an unknown man approached the amateur professional and shot her several times. According to reports, the perpetrator fled on a motorcycle.
A search is underway for the perpetrator
Sergio Alberto Jáuregui died immediately. Rescue workers on site were unable to do anything for him. Jáuregui’s former club, Atlético de San Luis Rey, wrote on Facebook: “We regret the death of our former player and captain Sergio Jáuregui. Our deepest condolences to his family.”
