The Mexican Football Association FMF has parted ways with national coach Diego Cocca after just four months.
The Argentine was released after the semi-final defeat in the Nations League of the North and Central American Federation Concacaf, as the FMF announced on Monday.
National teams director Rodrigo Ares has also been fired. Jaime Lozano has been appointed as interim coach for the forthcoming Concacaf Gold Cup.
Cocca was only hired in February as the successor to Gerardo Martino after the early end of the World Cup after the group stage in Qatar.
He was originally supposed to lead the team to the World Cup in the summer of 2026, which the USA, Canada and Mexico will host together with 48 teams for the first time.
The United States won the Nations League final against Canada on Sunday. In the game for third place, Mexico beat Panama.
Cocca was heavily criticized after Mexico’s semi-final defeat by the United States.
