Yle’s TV meteorologist and host of the Puoli sätt program Anniina Valtonen has had to go on sick leave. Valtonen tells about it on his Twitter and Instagram accounts.

On Friday afternoon, he posted a picture of himself lying in a hospital bed on Twitter. A cannula intended for intravenous medicine is attached to his arm.

– I can hear the rain pattering outside. I am on sick leave and will return to the weather maps when I feel well again, he writes next to the photo.

He hints in the publication that he experienced an unpleasant situation in the middle of a doctor’s examination.

– I’m just stating that it’s not okay to peek behind the curtain when the doctor is examining the patient, no matter who it is!

In his Instagram stories, Valtonen writes as follows:

– Bye! Today, Friday, I won’t watch the Half Seven broadcast. It’s been a very painful and tough week. My body and mind need rest now.

– Thank you to the nurses and doctors all over Finland who took care of me. Thank you also to those of you who let me be in the hospital in peace. Except you, who was trying to peek through the curtain of your bed while the doctor examined me. Everyone has the right to privacy!

In his publication, Valtonen does not say why he has had to take sick leave. Iltalehti could not reach Valtos to comment on his condition.

Nasty talk

Valtonen has talked about his unpleasant experiences with the public before. He has received nasty comments on social media as a result of his work as a TV presenter.

– How can you be such an annoying meteorologist? That’s a skill too. Everyone else is better, it was stated in one of the feedback directed at Valtonen.

In addition, Valtonen’s colleagues were listed in the feedback, and Valtonen was referred to as a “little guy”.

– You can give feedback, but when you’re about to send the nastiest kind of feedback, think for a moment that you would say the same thing face to face. Fortunately, meteorology is not a competitive sport, Valtonen wrote on Twitter in January.

In January, Valtonen started hosting the Friday Half Seven broadcasts. He believes that with that he has become a new acquaintance for some viewers and they have a need to express their opinion:

– Even after half a shutdown, the feedback is still mostly positive, but the negative comments have increased, he told Iltalehti at the time.

– However, I don’t react to negative ones. They have no grip on me. I’m not going to change myself for them.
