Metallica released a statement on Tuesday (December 06) warning their fans about fake streams, cryptocurrency scams and more. Ever since the group announced their new album “72 Seasons” along with a world tour, internet scammers have been exploiting the “trending topic” for their own profit. From the announcement, unofficial live streams and YouTube channels, as well as weird crypto sweepstakes, were launched to fool fans and steal money from them.
Metallica’s follow-up to 2016’s Hardwired…To Self-Destruct will be released on April 14th next year and can can already be pre-ordered here.
Metallica’s statement on online scams
Some days it seems like there are more bots and scammers on the internet than people. And this even with an estimated number of more than five billion people who have access to the World Wide Web. Even Metallica fans are not safe from such attacks. Because of this, the musicians have taken to social media to warn their community about “the ugly side of social media” and urged them to “always seek official confirmation before believing anything wild and crazy is true.” to their fans for being so vigilant and reporting the fraudulent content. Also, the band listed all of their official social media platforms.
