Kirk Hammett’s 1979 Gibson “Flying V” remains one of the most iconic guitars to date.
Epiphone is now honoring the Metallica guitarist and his work tool in a special way. In collaboration with the Gibson Custom Shop, they have released the “Kirk Hammett 1979 Flying V”, a detailed replica of the valuable original.
The guitar in Metallica’s masterpieces
Hammett had developed a fondness for Gibson and particularly the “Flying V” early in his career. He was inspired to do this by many other musicians who also played on a “Flying V”. Since he got the guitar from 1979, he has been playing it to this day, which has made it one of his trademarks, especially for his fans. In an Instagram post, Hammett writes: “For the fans, this ‘Flying V’ needs no introduction, but for all the other girls and boys… I used this famous guitar on Metallica’s groundbreaking metal albums: KILL ‘EM ELL, RIDE THE LIGHTNING , MASTER OF PUPPETS, …ANS JUSTICE FOR ALL, AND THE BLACK ALBUM”.
“Flying Vs” for everyone
The replica of its original is available in Ebony and Purple Metallic finishes Official Epiphone shop available. Commenting on the release, Kirk Hammett said: “I am very honored to be releasing an Epiphone Flying V today. Epiphone stands for great sounding guitars at affordable prices, which is essential for aspiring musicians. I am overjoyed that I can offer the “79er Flying V” in this form. It means so much to me to be able to put good guitars in the hands of young players.”
