The black metal band Martyrdom excited spectators at a festival with an unplanned provocation. At the White Swan gig in Houston, Texas, a severed pig’s head was thrown around.
A short video of it went viral online over the weekend and led to numerous malicious and malicious comments, especially from vegetarians and vegans. You can see a pig’s head being thrown into the back of the crowd. A visitor can be heard saying “disgusting” out loud. It initially remained unclear at which concert this happened.
After the musicians from Martyrdom, who performed there alongside Devoured Trachea, Accosted, Yung Jitt, 79 Stick, Big Pete, Entropy and Two Timer, got wind of the heavy criticism, they acknowledged the action and tried to smooth things over.
In a statement they apologized: “We are a black metal band, and so we try to incorporate visual things and a few little shock things into our set. Unfortunately, our campaign got out of hand and alienated many and even harmed some. We would like to apologize to any vegans, Muslims or other groups we may have offended, and to anyone who was hurt by our performance.”
Pig heads often fly through the hall
Black metal has its origins in the 80s. Anti-Christian, satanic and pagan themes and rituals are part of many concerts, and severed pig heads are not uncommon for such groups.
Aside from provoking people who don’t eat meat, a severed pig’s head is considered a religious insult in the Islamic world and is also used as a political symbol. Severed pig heads impaled on pitchforks were seen outside the courtroom in Miami where Donald Trump was indicted. According to “Business Insider,” some of his supporters had gathered here to protest with insults and such visually drastic actions.
