Mesut Özil wants to change sports

Although Mesut Özil is under contract with Fenerbahce, he has not played for the traditional club for months. That’s another reason why the 2014 world champion is worried about his future, says his adviser.

Mesut Özil could start a new career as an e-sportsman after the end of his football career. “He will go more into e-sports, play himself and maybe become an e-sportsman,” Özil’s advisor Erkut Sögüt told the English “Telegraph”. The 33-year-old is “really good at Fortnite and it wouldn’t surprise me if he competes,” said Sögüt.

The 2014 world champion owns the esports team M10 Esports. “And he has players. He has a player forge in Germany,” added Sögüt. E-sport, the sporting competition with computer games, is now a global market worth millions.

contract is to be fulfilled

Özil recently switched to top Turkish club Fenerbahçe Istanbul after his contract with Arsenal FC was terminated prematurely in January 2021. But at Fenerbahçe the midfielder is also facing the end. In March he was left out of the squad.

In November, club president Ali Koc had already complained that Özil finally had to concentrate on his work. The midfielder’s contract runs until June 30, 2024. Özil wants to fulfill it and stay. But there was speculation about a move to the United States.

However, Sögüt reiterated that Özil wants to stay in Istanbul. “I don’t think he will play at any other club. I can’t imagine that – it will be Fenerbahçe and that’s it.”
