Mesut Özil leaves Fenerbahce Istanbul prematurely

After his suspension, Mesut Özil was willing to fulfill his current contract with Fenerbahce until 2024. But that seems to have changed.

According to a media report, former world champion Mesut Özil is leaving the Turkish first division club Fenerbahce Istanbul. Both sides parted amicably, the broadcaster NTV Spor reported on Monday. A spokesman for the club initially did not confirm this when asked by the German Press Agency. NTV Spor also reports that Özil is also in talks with the Turkish first division club Medipol Basaksehir.

serve suspension

Özil, who joined Fenerbahçe from Arsenal in the English Premier League last year, has been excluded from the Fenerbahce squad since March. His contract with the top Turkish club actually runs until June 30, 2024. It was only in June that the 33-year-old world champion from 2014 emphasized that he wanted to fulfill his contract with Fenerbahce Istanbul despite the suspension.

The reason for the suspension was not made public. In November, club president Ali Koc complained that the 92-time Germany international had to finally focus on his work and put his business matters aside.
