Olympic fifth-placed Nadine Messerschmidt impressed with third place at the Shotgun World Cup in Lonato, Italy. The skeet shooter made it onto the World Cup podium for the second time in her career.

In the medal match of the top four, she prevailed against the Italian Martina Bartolomei on Wednesday and secured third place after just 20 shots.

The Thuringian made two penalties in the next ten targets, while US shooter Caitlin Connor and British Amber Hill shot clean. Caitlin then bested Hill and won.

“The last two mistakes in the medal match were stupid, otherwise I might even have been able to shoot for gold, but all in all I’m happy with the bronze medal,” said the 28-year-old Messerschmidt.
