Mesen awarded for car sharing, Koksijde strongest…

The award fits in with the Local Energy and Climate Pact of the Flemish government, in which the objective regarding car sharing is formulated. 293 cities and municipalities in Flanders signed that commitment and promised to increase their climate ambitions, including in the areas of greening, energy, mobility and rainwater.

“Each shared car replaces three to ten private cars,” says Antwerp’s Alderman for Mobility Koen Kennis (N-VA). “Car sharing is therefore an important key to reducing parking pressure and reducing car traffic in the city.” According to the Flemish government, the fact that, in addition to Antwerp, Mortsel and Mesen have now also achieved the target, proves that smaller cities are also starting to follow the example of the central cities.
