Mervi Kallio and Ossi Oikarinen spoke to each other on Viaplay’s F1 broadcast.
The duo interviewed Alfa Romeo driver Valtteri Bottas. Kallio asked Bottas if the Nastola native is satisfied with the result of the sprint race.
Bottas drove to the checkered flag in 11th place.
– This day was fine. Too bad there were no points. However, there was a small chance for points because there were a couple of crashes in front. We lack direct speed quite a lot, Bottas answered on Viaplay.
Kallio continued after this by highlighting the complexity of the sprint competition.
After this, Oikarinen got his turn to ask questions and started by stating that the race engineer’s review will now begin.
Oikarinen asked how difficult it was to keep the car on the track with a medium-hard tire compound after the start.
– The start was really difficult. The first laps were skating – good thing you stayed on the track. When the tire started to work, it is clearly better than the soft compound, Bottas replied.
Oikarinen continued with the tire tactics line in his questions, to which Bottas replied that he is not going to use the soft tire compound in Sunday’s race. Oikarinen also brought up issues related to the car’s balance.
After the interview, Kallio and Oikarinen spoke.
– An engineer is always an engineer. Terrible exam, Kallio started with a smile.
– You have to ask the drivers questions. That’s what we’re here for. You asked fun, entertaining questions. I ask those boring questions, Oikarinen answered.
– Yes, sometimes I try to ask a bit more cutting questions, Kallio threw back.
McLaren’s Oscar Piastri won the sprint race in Qatar. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen secured the third world championship of his career in the race.
