Now that the last days of 2023 are passing, Wim Daniëls has an interesting fact about the festival of lights. The linguist from Aarle-Rixtel says that it is not actually Christmas at all, but Krestmas.
In the word ‘Christmas’ the letter ‘r’ should come before the ‘e’. And the ‘e’ is actually an ‘i’. Not Christmas but Christ of Christ, Daniëls explains on X.
And he continues: “The offset of the letter ‘r’ with a vowel is more common: frost instead of freeze, brisket is Brust in German, Geldrop (village) and drie (thirteen).”
