Merger: Wingene and Ruiselede now survey residents digitally

After the referendum in Ruisele, there will be a new moment when residents can make their voices heard. This is done online, but also with a paper version that they will distribute next week. Those who participate can indicate what opportunities they see, or what the concerns are. Residents can also indicate whether they want to discuss the process leading up to the merger. Wingene and Ruiselede say that they want to arrive at a supported proposal that must be presented to both municipal councils.

To gauge cooperation

In November there was another plebiscite in Ruiselede. It was not binding, but the result showed that many participants voted against the merger with Wingene. “That is why the municipalities opt for an open dialogue from the start of this phase,” it says in a press release. “In this phase, the municipalities mainly want to gauge the willingness to be actively involved in the municipal merger.

The merger between Wingene and Ruiselede is the first in our province in the recent wave of municipal mergers.
