Merel Westrik would like to succeed Eva Jinek as talk show host on the late evening of RTL 4, but then the channel must meet ‘certain conditions’. And then it’s still ‘maybe’.
Her career has really exploded, but Merel Westrik would not seize the opportunity to succeed Eva Jinek on the late evening of RTL 4. The fallen presenter does it A.D as if she were the ultimate catch for channel boss Peter van der Vorst.
Didn’t call
When she is asked in the newspaper whether Peter has called yet, she answers: “You are really bad.” Then she takes out her phone: “I have Peter van der Vorst’s number. He’s typing in the app all the time, but he doesn’t send anything.”
Has he sent anything for that yet? “No no no.”
Her podcast colleague Frans Lomans: “Is it no? You say it three times with a kind of question mark.”
Merel: “It’s no. Point.”
Conditions
Merel doesn’t seem very enthusiastic about Eva’s succession. “Uh… maybe under certain conditions. But actually I think this is a place that can only be done by someone who immediately says ‘yes’.”
Colleague Frans: “Merel doesn’t really know what she wants in life. I would like to be her manager.”
Merel: “I might want too much. After my Net5 period (her contract with Talpa ended in 2022), I started freelancing for a year. I am now making this podcast, renovating a house and making a nature film about Amsterdam’s urban nature. And I also have a toddler and two bonus children at home.”
Very difficult
Merel has a bit of what all stars have these days: they just don’t want to work too much. A little bit of this, a little bit of that and above all, a lot of holidays.
Frans: “You just don’t concentrate on one thing.”
Merel: “It is incredibly difficult not to get distracted in life when there are so many possibilities.”
