Every TV night has winners and losers. Those of yesterday can be clearly identified: the men of Today Inside celebrate a viewing figure record, while Merel Westrik scores shame figures.
The Football World Cup is in full swing and that gives the men of Today Inside great viewing pleasure. Their daily edition De Oranjewinter scored exactly 1 million viewers (23 percent market share) on SBS 6 yesterday, which is a record. Never before have so many people watched the program of Johan Derksen and his colleagues in this tournament.
VI trio takes record
Tina Nijkamp, viewing figure connoisseur and former SBS boss, thinks it is a resounding score. “The 1 million viewers has been tapped and only 96 thousand viewers less than direct competitor Studio WK 22. The guests in the studio were Job Knoester and Roxane Knetemann. They will certainly be guests again soon. A wonderful score indeed.”
The previous programme, Shownieuws, scored quite poorly with 326 thousand viewers (6 percent). Steenrijk Straatarm attracted 413 thousand viewers (8 percent) before that.
Merel Westrik fails
Who was the big loser of the evening? Merel Westrik with 75 thousand viewers (1.5 percent) for Grenzeloos Verliefd: Baby Abroad. “Merel Westrik must have imagined her departure from Net5 very differently. Very dramatic scores week after week. A paltry 75 thousand viewers, making Net5 the tenth channel in the Netherlands.”
Incredibly bad, says Tina. “Last week also under 100 thousand viewers and including delayed viewing only 139 thousand viewers. Predecessor Grenzeloos Verliefd also scored lousy. How is this possible? So low? No idea. The combination with a heavy and also poorly scoring program such as Murder dossier does not match at all.”
World Cup on one
The big winner in prime time, next to Studio WK 22 and De Oranjewinter, was of course the Football World Cup. The Poland – Argentina match was viewed by 1.9 million viewers (36 percent).
The other most viewed prime-time titles were RTL 4’s Het Perfecte Plaatje (938 thousand and 17 percent) and NPO 2’s Atlas (520 thousand and 10 percent).
