The sports division of Mercedes represents much more than a parallel experience. Amg has written the recent history of the Stuttgart brand, so much so that it has become an almost indissoluble part of it and therefore closely integrated with medium and long-term development strategies. Proof of this is the Amg.Ea platform: under development at the Affalterbach laboratories, it will be the technological base for next generation sports cars. A delicate (and we can say suffered) step both for enthusiasts and for the Amg itself, accustomed to equipping standard Mercedes models with 6 and 8-cylinder engines, without forgetting the glorious V12s. The future does not wait and electrification will radically transform every aspect of mobility, including sports applications. Vision Amg is therefore an effective advance that demonstrates Mercedes ambitions to maintain a presence in the high-performance car segment. Inevitably quieter.

It arrives in 2025

The effects that the Vision Amg prototype will have on production models will be seen starting from 2025. The first vehicle of this new course should be a high-performance coupe sedan, built on the basis of the new Amg.Ea platform and equipped with developed electric motors. and designed by Yasa, a company owned by Mercedes and specialized in the production of electric engines. The appearance of the vehicle is very ambitious and it is unlikely that such proportions and lines will be reproduced on a definitive version of the car. This aesthetic writing suggests which direction the artistic proposal of the Mercedes designers will take to interpret the transition to electric mobility. The front area is very different from what has been shown up to now, with the headlights embedded in the bodywork and made up of three separate elements. The grille (closed) is distinguished by the vertical strips while the rear area is identified by the optical groups with six lights. The lines are very clean and smooth but return a muscular and handsome tone. The aerodynamic profiles are instead reduced to a minimum in order not to compromise the visual balance. Interior images have not been published at the moment.

New MMA platform

Mercedes is continuing to invest resources to respond to new market needs. The strategy foresees the entry of the MMA platform, dedicated to access vehicles to the Mercedes electric range, by 2024. This is an important revision of the current product proposal: the goal is to reduce the offer to increase revenues. The seven body styles available in the segment will be limited to four by 2026; the list price will increase by reducing the percentage of market penetration. However, this should ensure Mercedes a more profitable vehicle production by downsizing and repositioning almost the entire product range of compact vehicles.
