The Glb changes and becomes more adult. The compact Mercedes it grows in size and ambitionpresenting itself as a family car – even with seven seats – with a more personal and mature style, inspired by that of the Eqb electric. The measurements give an idea of ​​the model: the new generation, whose sales will begin in March, it is 4 meters and 72 cm long, 7 cm more than the previous version and, above all, it sees its wheelbase increase by 6 cm, to reach 2 meters and 89 cm, to the particular benefit of the rear passengers, for whom legroom increases by 6.8 cm. Vertical space is also greaterthanks to the new style and shape of the panoramic roof: compared to the EQB, the headroom increases by 3.5 cm for the occupants of the front seats, by 6.4 for the rear ones and by one cm for those in the third row. Added to this is a completely redesigned interior also to accommodate the innovative and technological Superscreen.

Designed for families, the new Glb offers great availability of space also for luggagewith a rear compartment with a capacity of 480 or 540 liters (respectively in the 5 or 7 seat version), which can become 1,605 or 1,715 by folding down the rear seat backrests; the electric propulsion version adds the front compartment – ​​said frunk – whose capacity is 127 litres. For large families, the Glb offers the (rare) possibility ofinstall up to five child seats for the transport of children, one of whom is next to the passenger and two others for each of the two rear rows. The two seats in the third row are welcoming people up to 1 meter and 68 cm tall3 cm more than the previous version, while access is made easier by the Easy Entry function with an adjustment range greater than 3.2 cm and a wider rear door opening.

The Glb now has a more personal style, with a vertical front, sloped windshield and short overhangs; the off-road character is underlined by elements such as the protections around the wheel arches and the underbody. 94 LED stars, individually animated, and chrome finishes they enrich the radiator grille, with the central star that can light up partially or completely; the hybrid version will instead be recognizable by the classic chrome grille, surrounded by an LED light guide. The large Sky Control panoramic roof (optional) can be made opaque in a few milliseconds for more privacy.

It certainly attracts attention inside the Mbux Superscreen (optional) which houses a 10.25-inch screen for the instruments, a 14-inch central display and a third 14-inch display reserved for the front passenger. The Mbux Superscreen allows you to select 11 environments, so as to create a personalized interior atmosphere. The operating system is MB.OSdeveloped internally by Mercedes and integrated with the Intelligent Cloud; based on artificial intelligence integrated by Microsoft and Googleallows over-the-air updates of the most important vehicle functions, including those related to ADAS. The new Mbux virtual assistant, built on ChatGpt4 and on the Microsoft Bing search engineallows you to entertain complex dialogues with the system, while Google Gemini answers questions related to navigation aby accessing the Google Maps platform to provide personalized responses. In this way, on the electric Glb it is easy to plan the fastest route, including breaks for charging. The passenger screen, available on request, offers a wide range of entertainment options through platforms such as Disney+ which offers films and series from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, 20th Century Fox Studios and others, the library being constantly updated. Adas’ endowment is inevitably richcomprising eight cameras, five radars, 12 ultrasonic sensors and a high-performance water-cooled control unit. The MB.Drive package includes, among other things, the Drive assist with easy lane change (Level 2 autonomous driving, with automatic lane change on the motorway from next year), the Dirve Assist Pro with advanced urban functions, which will debut first in China, and the Rive Parking assist, with improved parking functions and surround views.

At launch, the new electric Glb will be available in two versions 250+ with power of 200 kW-272 HP and torque of 335 Nm and 350 4Matic with power of 260 kW-354 HP and 515 Nm of torque; both are equipped with a lithium ion battery with net capacity of 85 kWh and nickel, manganese and cobalt cell chemistry. The Glb EQ is based on an 800 volt architecture like the smart #5: the maximum charging power is 22 kW in AC and 320 in DC. The range approved in the WLTP cycle for the less powerful version is 631 km; The braking energy recovery system also takes care of charging, generating up to 200 kW and allowing driving in one-pedal mode. At a later stage, the Bev range will be enriched with other variants which will also include an entry level version. As for performance, both battery-powered Glbs can achieve speed of 210 km/h maximumwhile the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h is 7.4 seconds for the 250+ and 5.5 for the 350+ 4Matic. The Glb Bevs are equipped with a two-speed gearbox, located on the rear axle, with the first offering immediate acceleration and high towing capacity and the second favoring motorway travel and maximum speed. The Glb 4Matic offers all-wheel drive thanks to the presence of an 80 kW front engine associated with a silicon carbide inverter, which comes into operation when greater thrust or greater traction is needed; a special control unit, called DCU, connects and disconnects the front engine depending on the conditions of use of the car.

A few months after the launch of the full electric version, the new Glb will also be offered in a 48 volt hybrid version with electric motor integrated into the transmission; the thermal engine, initially available in three power levels and combinable with front-wheel drive or 4MATIC all-wheel drive, it will be the 4-cylinder 1,500 Miller cycle of the Fame family (Modular Engine Family), developed by Mercedes-Benz. This generation of combustion engines is equipped with an aluminum crankcase, a partially integrated exhaust manifold, a turbocharger; the electric motor, the inverter and the transmission (eight speeds) form an integrated system, while the lithium ion battery It has a capacity of 1.3 kWh which guarantees long distances in electric mode and the coasting function with the decoupled transmission up to a speed of approximately 100 km/h.

The new Glb Bev is available in four trim levels, called Advanced, Advanced Plus, Premium and Premium Plus, which can be further enriched with countless accessory packages. Prices start from 59,398 euros for the Glb 250+ EQ and from 64,766 for the Glb 350 4Matic, to reach the 72,391 of the flagship versionthe 350 4Matic Premium Plus EQ.
