Franz Wagner from the Orlando Magic team is injured during a game against the New York Knicks. The basketball star has to take a break, but is spared from a serious injury.

Franz Wagner severely sprained his left ankle during a game against the New York Knicks, but was spared a torn cruciate ligament. The MRI scan on Monday revealed that the Orlando Magic basketball star only needs a short break. According to ESPN, Wagner will be missing from his team for around “two to four weeks” and could play again in January.

The incident occurred on Sunday at Madison Square Garden when Wagner was fouled by his German opponent Ariel Hukporti while attempting to catch a high pass and landed awkwardly on the ground. His coach Jamahl Mosley initially assumed a serious injury. “You never want to see someone go down, but it hurt my heart to see him fall to the ground,” Mosley said.

Wagner, who recently played with a mask because of a broken nose, performed exceptionally well in the first year of his new $224 million contract. Especially in the absence of injured co-star Paolo Banchero, he carried the offense, so that Orlando moved back into the playoff ranks after a weak start to the season.

After the blessing in disguise, Orlando’s dream of attacking the championship now seems realistic again. Since Moritz Wagner is also close to his comeback after a torn cruciate ligament, the Wagner brothers will soon be able to be on the court together again for Orlando, also on January 15th in front of their fans in Berlin.
