Mercedes-Benz shares strong: court hears lawsuit brought by German environmental aid – Asia expert Paul Gao appointed head of strategy

The environmentalists of the association call for a climate-friendly conversion of the car manufacturer. They are particularly concerned with reducing carbon dioxide emissions in accordance with the Paris Climate Agreement and the German Climate Protection Act. Among other things, Mercedes should stop selling combustion engines by 2030.

According to its own statements, the DUH is also suing BMW and the energy company Wintershall Dea in addition to Mercedes. Last year, the DUH, together with Greenpeace, initiated the first proceedings against corporations after the climate decision of the Federal Constitutional Court. In the civil proceedings of the DUH, the hearing before the Stuttgart court is now the first in the first instance.

Mercedes-Benz appoints Asia expert Paul Gao as chief of strategy

Premium car manufacturer Mercedes-Benz has filled the newly created position of Chief Strategy Officer. Paul Gao, most recently senior partner at McKinsey & Company in Hong Kong, will take over the position, as the DAX group announced. Gao has many years of experience in the automotive industry, where he has served Chinese and global clients. “With his international profile, he will control all aspects of the Mercedes-Benz strategy in the future,” says the group.

“He has almost 30 years of expertise in the automotive industry and has extensive knowledge of China and other Asian growth markets,” Mercedes-Benz CEO Ola Källenius is quoted as saying in the statement. A focus of his work will be the integration of the specific requirements and insights of key Asian markets into strategic business decisions at Mercedes-Benz.

Gao has worked for consulting companies in America and Asia, including almost 20 years at McKinsey & Company, where he has been advising multinational and Chinese automotive companies as a senior partner since 2013. Gao reports directly to Källenius. He is scheduled to take over the position in July.

In XETRA trading, the Mercedes-Benz share temporarily rose by 2.29 percent to 64.42 euros.
