Meppen’s Thilo Leugers has to end his career due to injury

129 games for the SVM

Third division SV Meppen will have to do without a top performer in the future: Thilo Leugers is retiring, as the club announced on Thursday. The former SVM captain, who previously played for Twente Enschede in the Eredivisie and played twice in the Champions League in the Dutchman’s shirt in 2010, has to pay tribute to an injury. In the summer preparations for 2021, the 31-year-old tore his cruciate ligament.

“He always went ahead as captain. He was always a role model for the entire team and always gave his all on the pitch. Unfortunately, he has had a lot of bad luck with his serious injuries throughout his career. So it was difficult to get back in after this period of suffering. We would have liked to have had him in the squad. Future involvement in the club is always open to him,” explained sporting director Heiner Beckmann.
