A 35-year-old man from Meppel has pleaded guilty to two assaults in a pub in Meppel. The judge imposed 180 hours of community service on the man and a three-month suspended prison sentence.
Last year on July 3, the man grabbed a young woman in the crotch when she fetched a drink at the bar. This happened unexpectedly for her. The man grabbed the woman first by the arm and then in her pubic area. Up to twice. Upset, the woman told a friend what had happened to her.
The girlfriend approached the man who had been identified as an assaulter. She said to him, “You touched her, why are you doing this.” In response, the man addressed wrapped his arms around her waist. The woman got caught in her arms and tried to break free. The man pulled down her top.
As a result, she stood with bare breasts in the middle of the pub. The judge believes the stories of the two women. There is hardly any time between recording the reports of both victims and hearing the witnesses. As a result, there can be no question of mutual influence, the court reasoned.
The man was guided by his feelings of lust and did not take into account the consequences of his actions, the judge said. The punishment hardly deviates from the requirement. De Meppeler must pay one of the victims compensation of 1000 euros.
