A 34-year-old man from Meppel is guilty of raping a 13-year-old girl after he drugged her with GHB. The judge gave the man a prison sentence of 9 years for this.
De Meppeler made film recordings of the sex with the girl who was not conscious at the time. As a result, he is also guilty of possession of child pornography. The case came to light in April this year when the child’s mother looked at the man’s phone.
The mother and the man were in a relationship at the time. The woman didn’t trust him and went through his phone, looking for secrets. She came across images of him having sex with a young girl. When she looked closer she recognized her daughter.
The woman made copies of these images and went to the police. The relationship ended immediately. Police searched the man’s home and found more footage taken in July last year. The girl was staying with the man at the time. All images show that the child does not react at all to the sexual acts.
De Meppeler admitted to having sex with the girl, but denied drugging. The court sees sufficient evidence that both criminal offenses were committed by the man. The judge blames the man for seriously endangering the child’s health. With 5 milliliters of GHB or more there is a good chance of passing out or falling into a coma.
The court finds this action reprehensible and particularly harmful. The child had complete confidence in the man. She felt completely safe with him during sleepovers. The mother entrusted her daughter to him. The man seriously betrayed this trust.
The judge finds that the man acted extremely calculatingly by drugging the victim and then raping him. The first videos were made with a phone in hand. The second time the man purchased a camera. He made the recordings so that he could view them again later.
Sexual abuse at a young age has serious consequences. The child had to be informed by her mother what happened to her. The fact that she did not consciously experience the sexual abuse does not make it any different. She also has to process this, the judge said.
To prevent the man from repeating his offense after his detention, he will receive guidance and supervision after serving his sentence, for as long as necessary. De Meppeler must pay the girl a sum of 17,500 and the mother 5,000 euros.
