Meppel invests one and a half million euros in MeppelEnergie

MeppelEnergie will receive just over 1.2 million euros from the municipality of Meppel to prevent bankruptcy. The municipality also waives a loan of almost 300,000 euros.

This is a one-off investment, which secures the future of energy supplier MeppelEnergie. MeppelEnergie has been in financial trouble for a few years now. Bankruptcy has long been a possibility.

The municipality of Meppel is a shareholder in MeppelEnergie together with Rendo. There was an idea from the municipality to stop being a shareholder. The municipality declines to do so, because it would not help in the situation. The council says it is pleased with the step taken by the municipality. “This problem has gone on for far too long,” said Marisa Grotens on behalf of the VVD.
