Meppel hospital converted for refugees: in the room where a heart patient recovered from an operation two weeks ago, a Ukrainian family will be staying from Monday

The former Isala hospital in Meppel has been transformed into emergency shelter for about 90 Ukrainian refugees in a few weeks.

The old hospital was a lottery ticket for Meppel; the municipality was looking for a place for large-scale emergency shelter and the building was just empty. Contracts for bed linen and catering could even be taken over. The entire B-building was converted in a short time.

The B building has five floors; each floor houses four quadruple, three double and three single rooms. On the ground floor are annexes of the Refugee Work Foundation, the Red Cross, the social domain of the municipality and a GP post.
