Following the example of various municipalities in Drenthe, the municipality of Meppel also transfers money to Giro 555 for the victims of the earthquake in Turkey and Syria. It concerns an amount of 25,000 euros.
“The earthquakes in Turkey and Syria have shocked the world, including the administration and residents of the municipality of Meppel,” the municipality said. “As a municipality, we can contribute in this way to the great suffering that is taking place in both countries.”
The municipalities of Assen, Coevorden and Emmen previously donated one euro per inhabitant. Aa and Hunze, Borger-Odoorn (both 50,000 euros) and the municipality of Midden-Drenthe (34,000 euros) also contributed.
