Men alone in Volendam in Europe, SEW upholds North Holland honor among women

Both the Volendam men and the SEW women can prepare for a new European handball adventure. In the absence of national champion Lions, Volendam will be the only men’s team to play in the European Cup this year. In the women’s race, SEW will be joined by Velo and Venlo.

Because national champion Lions will not participate in European handball, Volendam will be the only Dutch team to play in the EHF European Cup. In its own words, Lions declines to participate because it “has no business in Europe.” Cup winner Volendam, on the other hand will go into the tube in Switzerland on Tuesday 18 July. Due to the higher ranking, the team of trainer Geert Hinskens only enters the second round of the main tournament. The matches in the second round of the European Cup will be played on October 14 and 21.

Last season, Volendam also participated in the second European tournament. In the second round, the Volendammers then became eliminated by the Swiss Wacker Thun.

North Holland honour

In the women’s race, SEW will again be present in Europe, just like last year. National champion VOC announced earlier because of the finances to refrain from participating in the European Cup.

In the draw for the EHF European Cup, SEW will be placed in pot 2, just like Velo. In pot 1 we find Venlo. The Limburgers lost the final for the VOC national championship this year.

The first round of the European Cup starts at the end of September. Games will be played on September 23/24 and September 30/October 1.
