A temporary memorial site has been set up for the 59-year-old man from Overloon who died on his bicycle last week during the autumn storm Ciarán. The accident happened on Thursday afternoon on the Dokter Kortmannweg in Venray.
The victim was riding his bicycle when he was hit by a falling tree.
Relatives and friends of the victim placed flowers and candles at the scene of the accident. The decoration has been placed between the short sawn tree branches that were left behind after the storm.
Storm Ciarán caused a lot of damage throughout the country. Several people were injured and the material damage to houses, cars and gardens was extensive. Until last week, the Tilburg-based non-life insurer Interpolis received eight hundred damage reports from private individuals. Dozens of companies also filed claims for damages.
