MEMENTO MORI secured first place in the German album charts in the week after it went on sale (March 24). The British synth-poppers from Depeche Mode are thus overtaking the Beatles. With their twelfth number one record, they are the international band with the most such successes in this country. In their home country, they recently fought a close race for the position with Lana Del Rey’s DID YOU KNOW THAT THERE’S A TUNNEL UNDER OCEAN BLVD. This will be decided on the evening of March 31st when the final figures are announced. It could be her third entry at the top there. In any case, even if they placed second, it would be their highest success since DELTA MACHINE, which was released in 2013.
The group’s 15th studio album was recorded by a duo of Martin Gore and Dave Gahan following the tragic death of Andrew Fletcher in May 2022. The twelve songs on MEMENTO MORI were written during the early phase of the Covid 19 pandemic, i.e. with his participation.
The formation is currently on a world tour. In May, June and July they come to Germany for eight concerts. MUSIKEXPRESS met some die-hard fans in preparation.
