Members of the German far-right party AfD are on the list of visitors to failed coup plotter | Abroad

Three members of Germany’s far-right AfD party are on the visitor list of Birgit Malsack-Winkemann, a former AfD member who is in jail for attempting to overthrow the German government. This is evident from a study by the German magazine Stern and TV channel RTL.

An AfD spokesperson confirmed the news to the German news agency dpa. “The leadership of the parliamentary group is aware of contacts that were of a personal nature and not related to the work of the parliamentary group,” it said.

One of the party members mentioned, Jürgen Pohl, answered specific questions about his visits with a question in return: “Wouldn’t you be happy with a visit from third parties if you have been in jail for more than a year?”

In December 2022, a number of suspected members of the far-right group ‘Reichsbürger’ were arrested on suspicion of terrorism. According to the German Federal Prosecutor’s Office, they had made preparations to overthrow the German government.

The suspected leader of the cell is an aristocrat and businessman from Frankfurt, Henri XIII Prince Reuss. Malsack-Winkermann is said to have been a member since August 2021 and used her position as an MP to help some members tour the parliament buildings. Under the new regime, she would have been entrusted with the post of justice.
