Members of Egmond football clubs also see a merger at one of the current complexes

A large majority of the members of the Egmond football associations Sint Adelbert, Egmondia and Zeevogels are in favor of pursuing a merger at one of the existing complexes. That became apparent yesterday during a special members meeting that was held at the clubs. More than 97 percent of the members present voted in favour.

There has been talk for years about a merger between the three Egmond football associations. The idea was that football would be played at a brand new football complex in Egmond aan den Hoef. However, the Council of State set a stripe by the plan because the zoning plan was not appropriate.

That plan fell through, among other things, because the province of North Holland designated the site as a bulb concentration area; bulb cultivation must therefore remain possible. There was also insufficient research into the consequences of the extra nitrogen emissions for nature due to the construction of a new complex.

Future football

Despite this setback, the football clubs have decided to continue as VV Egmond on one of the grounds of the current clubs. The boards were already plan but they still had to submit it to their own members.

And with success: “All in all a great evening for the future of football in the Egmonden”, said Robert van den Bosch on behalf of the clubs. “This means that from now on, the right merger location will be looked at in consultation with the municipality.”

“The municipality is now going to make a quick scan, in which the three associations can provide input per location. Ultimately, the municipality will make a final choice for one of the three existing locations.”

Municipality delighted

The municipality is pleased that all football clubs’ noses are pointing in the same direction. “It is very good to have one good, future-proof football club for the Egmonds”, alderman Marco Wiesehahn told NH Nieuws. “As a municipality, we are pleased that the members of the three clubs have agreed to this by a large majority.”
