Special level sexual therapist (NACS) Marja Kihlström revealed on Instagram on New Year’s Eve that she was diagnosed with melanoma, i.e. skin cancer, last spring.
The personal update spawned several private messages to Kihlström. He tells Iltalehti that he is grateful for peer support and all the messages of encouragement he has received in recent days.
– People were clearly reminded of how suddenly melanoma can be found. That gave me a lot of questions, what was that mole like.

One point in the messages in particular caught Kihlström’s attention.
– I received more stories from men that melanoma was found in them. That update of mine spoke to quite a lot of people of the same age, i.e. people in their thirties and forties.
Kihlström has not had time to respond to all messages on social media. Some of the conversations have been very personal, when the senders of the messages have shared their own experiences.
– I think it’s really great that men are also able to tell how it has been a shocking and confusing experience for them, and brought up their fears. We have talked a lot about the feeling of immortality. You could say that quite a lot of people under forty think that death won’t touch me when I’m so young.

Next week, Kihlström has his first inspection visit. The presenter, known from the Naked Attraction Suomi program, admits that the situation is exciting, but at the same time he feels confident about the future. He hopes that as many people as possible will have their moles examined by a doctor.
In addition to television programs, Kihlström is an active social media influencer. He has more than 36,000 followers on Instagram. He has told Iltalehti before that people’s threshold to seek therapy has lowered.
– It is important that sex therapists get a face in public. And when people see that ordinary guys seek help from therapy for their challenges, it becomes easier to go there, Kihlström said in an interview with Iltalehte in August 2022.
According to Kihlström, the work of a sex therapist is quite versatile.
– Sexual therapy is a discussion aid in the form of individual and couple therapy, taking into account those living in multiple relationships. Sure, in some situations I might use music, books or breathing exercises, we can look at anatomy pictures or study sex toys, I give love exercises as homework and sometimes I’ve even gone as an escort to a gynecologist visit.
