Former American first lady Melania Trump has had to say goodbye to her mother. Amalija Knavs (78) died on January 9 in Miami after an illness and was buried today in a church not far from the Trumps’ residence: Mar-a-Lago in Florida. The entire family was present at the funeral.

Melania remembered her mother as a listening ear and “a ray of light in the darkest days.” “In her presence the world seemed to shine, shining and full of joy. Our bond was unbreakable,” she said during a speech at the church. She called her mother a source of support and support in difficult times.
Not only her father Viktor Knavs, her husband Donald Trump and their son Barron were present at the service. The former president’s children from previous relationships were also present: daughter Ivanka and her husband Jared Kushner, son Donald Trump Jr. and his fiancée Kimberly Guilfoyle, son Eric Trump and his wife Lara Trump, and daughter Tiffany and her fiancée Michael Boulos.
During Donald Trump’s presidency, Melania’s parents lived in New York. She occasionally appeared at the White House, including in 2018 when Melania proposed a campaign against cyberbullying.
Melania Trump’s parents come from the industrial city of Sevnica in Slovenia. Amalija Knavs was a textile worker and housewife, her husband first worked as a driver and later as a car dealer. In addition to Melania, they have another (older) daughter: Ines. They became US citizens in 2018. According to their lawyer, they did this on their own and did not receive special treatment because their son-in-law was the president.
Donald Trump skipped a defamation trial in New York to attend the funeral. He was there on Tuesday and Wednesday. The trial will determine how much he should pay writer E. Jean Carroll for publicly discrediting her after she accused him of rape.
