Melancholia director Lars von Trier has Parkinson’s | Media and Culture

Lars von Trier (66) has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. The Danish director is known for films such as Dogville, Antichrist and Melancholia.

At the end of this month, Von Trier’s television series will The Kingdom Exodus world premiere at the Venice Film Festival. The producer wanted to avoid speculation about his health. That’s why his film production company Zentropa decided to share the news.

“Lars’ mood is good and he is being treated for his symptoms. Completing The Kingdom Exodus is going ahead as planned,” said producer Louise Vesth, with whom von Trier previously worked. Due to his illness, the director will give few interviews prior to the premiere.

The Kingdom Exodus is the third and final season of Von Trier’s TV series The Kingdom. Previous seasons appeared in 1994 and 1997. The series, set in Denmark rigeto is about a hospital in Copenhagen where inexplicable things happen.
