There is no denying it anymore: the goodness factor of the Meilandjes has become a lot smaller over time. Even now, the wealthy TV family is under fire again. “She’s xenophobic, he’s pedantic!”
It will take some getting used to for the Meilandjes. Where everyone initially exulted about this ordinary family that with their daily worries scored better than the entire star stable of SBS 6, they now also cause a lot of annoyance. This mainly concerns their controversial statements, their media quarrels and their unworldliness.
Liar Maxime
Daughter Maxime Meiland was the first to go for the ax on Wednesday. She has been exposed as a liar by Anna Nooshin and she can’t help but admit that. “We haven’t had any contact yet. I find it annoying to hear that she thought it was so bad,” Maxime responds to Shownieuws. “And also understandable, because it was not nice of me to say!”
The most painful thing is that Maxime initially tried to put her lying statements about Anna away as fake newsas if the media had made it up. But that also turned out to be a lie.
Xenophobic Erica
In the meantime, mother Erica Meiland gets de Volkskrant over her. TV critic Yasmina Aboutaleb, the daughter of Rotterdam mayor Ahmed Aboutaleb, cites the previous media row around the Meilandjes.
“It was about the book Erica, the motor behind the Meilandjes in which we get to know the xenophobic side of the usually so hospitable television mother Erica Renkema,” says Yasmina.
Xenophobic, but still a hit. It hurts Yasmina. “For the time being, BV Meiland does not seem to be suffering much from all the criticism. On the contrary.”
pedantic Martien
And father Martien Meiland? That went over the tongue again yesterday with the men of Today Inside. “What really bothers me about Meiland: he always presents himself as the big star and savior of SBS,” said Johan Derksen.
Today it is precisely the men of VI. Johan: “I would never say that about us, even if it were, but I also think it is very pedantic to show off that: we are the saviors. Because he has good ratings with that nonsense. It’s like this: if you make tacky TV, there’s a good chance that people will watch.”
Medicines
René van der Gijp maintains that he thinks Martien is an act. “You can never be this hyper-stressed 12 hours a day. If that doesn’t work, you’ll need medication. If you’re like that then it gets to be too much at some point. You know: he normally just sits in the morning reading the newspaper that man. Nice and comfortable. Then the camera turns on and it has to be turned on.”
It doesn’t help that even Angela de Jong has now turned against the Meilandjes. She denounces their new show Chateau Assistance. At the table at VI: “This with social assistance is exactly what you should not do with those people, because it becomes such a play. And those people have to have the crazy reactions they have to fairly normal things.”
