Erica and Martien Meiland’s this-and-that podcast has been running for a few weeks now, but it’s not very much. They also skype every week with a well-known Dutch person and this week that is Rachel Hazes. It interview is quite soporific; it never gets even remotely exciting or controversial.

boring interview

Boring, they even think at Shownieuws. “Rachel is quite a nice guest to have, because she is about the most talked about woman in the Netherlands. Been in the news a lot,” says Weekend boss Bart Ettekoven. “I do have a few questions for her, I think we all have that at the table.”

He continues: “What would I ask? In any case, I would not present her with the dilemma: ‘What would you like: never listen to Hazes again or always work in the oncology department of a hospital?’ Because that is the dilemma they presented to her.”

Missed opportunity

Bart thinks it’s a missed opportunity. “Yeah, you know, this woman… I would then ask, ‘Do you think your kids will ever be okay and what do you plan to do about it yourself?’”

Anouk Smulders: “Do you think they soften it all on purpose in that podcast?”

Bart: “They also call it the ‘positive podcast’. They want to keep it positive, so I can imagine that from that point of view you won’t ask about family quarrels or difficult other matters, but Rachel is of course regularly under fire.”

positive quip

Tooske Ragas: “When you invite such a guest, you can hardly avoid discussing things that might be a little more difficult, but you can still do that in a positive way.”

Bart: “Yes, give it a positive joke.”

Anouk: “It’s great that we all react so enthusiastically to this.”
