THE 2 years of Lilibet will not be just any birthday. For the little one it is the first officially celebrated as a princess and Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are preparing to welcome a few guests – selected from their Californian friends and VIP neighbors – for a little house party. But it will all be done in a bit of a hurry, because Harry is off again.
Harry leaves, Meghan Markle stays (again) in Montecito
The prince had made a fleeting appearance in London last May 6 for the coronation of Charles, leaving in less than 48 hours to return to California with his children Archie (4 years old performed on the day of the event) and Lilibet. And now she’s about to go on a similar escapade, this time to testify in the case against the British tabloid Mirrors and illegal wiretapping.
Meghan Markle also prepares the cake
The little party for little Lilibet will take place a day in advance, and as seen in the docuseries Harry & Meghan, exit on Netflix last year, the former actress loves organizing her children’s birthdays, taking care of every detail. She prepares the cake herself, hand write invitations and organize group games for children and their friends. And there is also a separate party for adults, in an area of the garden reserved for mums and dads.
Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor’s princess birthday
This time, the former actress wants to make sure that her daughter’s birthday, now a princess, doesn’t take a back seat. Last year, when the Sussexes were all in London for Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee, they had ended up practically closed and isolated in the residence of Frogmore Cottage – which Carlo had not yet taken away from the couple. And Lilibet had had to settle for a picnic in the garden, with no royal present.
Grandpa Carlo’s gift, in memory of Queen Elizabeth
Even this time there will be no Royal relatives, nor those of Markle. Only Grandma Doria Ragland will be present at the little party. But grandfather Carlo has not forgotten the anniversary.
Lilibet is awaiting a special gift, which will arrive postmarked Buckingham Palace: a cubby house, a wooden house built to order, to be installed in the garden and where the little one can play undisturbed. As a child she had one like that Queen Elizabeth, from whom Lilibet inherited the nickname.
