Megan Thee Stallion: “It’s okay not to be okay”

She joined Seize the Awkward to advocate for mental health.

Megan Thee Stallion has teamed up with the organization Seize the Awkward to encourage people to talk more about their feelings with friends. The organization works to raise awareness of mental health and offers help on how to reach out to people going through difficult times. In a video on her Instagram account, the rapper speaks honestly about her own mental health struggles and reminds others, “It’s okay to not be okay.”

“I was always told that I had to be strong. Thick-skinned, with a stiff upper lip. Hard as steel,” the musician opens the clip. “But being everything to everyone… that takes a toll on you. They say ‘Black don’t crack’, but it can. I can do it. We can all do it.” Her song, “Anxiety,” plays quietly in the background.

“It’s okay not to be okay,” the 28-year-old continues, looking directly into the camera. “Reach out to a friend when you see them going through a difficult time. No matter who you are, being vulnerable is what makes us whole.” She then encourages viewers to visit the website “Seize the Awkward” or their own website to visit for additional resources to help friends through difficult times.

The video was celebrated by her followers, including Beyoncé’s mother Tina Knowles and Taraji P. Henson, who commented with several hearts.
