Mega holiday park near two small villages

550 holiday homes and a marina with about 400 berths. After years of discussion, the plans for a new holiday park on the Kraaijenbergse Plassen near Cuijk are becoming clearer. With more than a hundred football fields, it will be one of the larger holiday parks in Brabant. This is how it will look.

Peace, space and water with a view over the reed beds. This is how part of the park is described in the plans. It looks a bit like the palm islands in Dubai. “But you really can’t make that comparison anymore,” says project leader of the park Henk van Eldijk. “No, it won’t be megalomaniac.”

The Kraaijenbergse Plassen on the Maas were created after large-scale sand and gravel extraction. Since 1998 there has been talk of a large holiday park on the south side of the lakes. That area is called Dommelsvoort. But in all those years it never really got off the ground. An earlier plan by a project developer just didn’t work out. A few years ago, Dutch Resorts took over for TopParken. On Thursday it was presented what the park could look like.

“It will not be simple chalets.”

Dommelsvoort needs a huge overhaul. There will be all channels where the houses come. “Yes, this is a huge job,” says project leader Henk van Eldijk. “If all goes well, we will start next summer. But it will take at least five years before it is ready.”

It will therefore be a large nature park with the houses in between. “And those are not simple chalets,” according to Van Eldijk. “They will become full-fledged houses. They are very well insulated and they have solar panels and a heat pump.”

The park will be located between the villages of Beers and Linden. They have been concerned for years about the crowds in the area now that there is more and more recreation there. And now there will be a holiday park that is just as big as the villages themselves. However, according to alderman Jilisen, that does not mean that it will always be very busy. “Half of the cottages are sold as second homes. So I think it will turn out okay.”

In the coming period, the project developer will enter into discussions with, among others, the villages. They want to start construction next summer.
