Mega fight between Alexander Usyk and Anthony Joshua terminated

The rematch between heavyweight boxing world champion Alexander Usyk of Ukraine and Britain’s Anthony Joshua will take place on August 20 in the Saudi Arabian port city of Jeddah. This was announced by the organizers.

Usyk dethroned Joshua as world champion in London last September and holds the titles of the world associations WBC, WBA, IBF and IBO.

A rematch was originally planned for May but was postponed due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

Usyk had announced that he wanted to defend his country with arms and returned there in February.

Anthony Joshua speaks of “roller coaster ride”

In March he then announced that he had left Kyiv again and was in the training camp in preparation for the rematch.

“I have a goal, with the help of the Lord I will fulfill my mission!” Usyk said.

Joshua will fight for the second time in Saudi Arabia after reclaiming the IBF, WBA, WBO and IBO belts from Andy Ruiz Jr. at Diriyah Hall in December 2019.

“What a rollercoaster ride to be fighting for the world heavyweight title for the 12th year in a row,” said Joshua.
