Not only Western governments are imposing sanctions on Russia. Companies are also showing solidarity with Ukraine and are boycotting Putin.
In the ongoing war in Ukraine, the West is once again called upon to demonstrate unity. Tech giants from the USA are also flying the flag and reacting to Putin’s war of aggression against Ukraine with a boycott against Russia. With Apple, a true big player is now setting an example.
Apple’s boycott of Russia
To express its disapproval of the Ukraine war, Apple is stopping all product sales in Russia with immediate effect. So they don’t currently sell iPhones, iPads, MacBooks or other devices with the Apple on them. This was reported by the US news channel CNBC.
In addition, all exports to Russia are stopped and some local services are also restricted. Accordingly, Apple Pay should only work partially. The apps of the Russian state broadcasters “Russia Today News” and “Sputnik News” are no longer available for download outside of Russia in the App Store.
With its own map service “Apple Maps” you can neither view traffic conditions nor live accidents for Ukraine. Apple fears this data could be used tactically by Russia to wage war.
Other companies are also boycotting Russia
In addition to Apple, other companies have already announced that they will withdraw completely or partially from Russia.
The most important include the oil company Shell and the energy company BP, which are terminating partnerships with Russian companies or divesting themselves of holdings.
Social media platforms Twitter, YouTube, TikTok and Facebook block Russian media accounts or severely limit their visibility in the EU.
The travel industry has already reacted to the Ukraine war. Our colleagues from TRAVELBOOK have in their review article the most important developments are recorded. This is what reserve organizers and shipping companies have already said.
Parts of the German retail trade do without products that are manufactured in Russia. Rewe, Penny and Aldi Süd are there. The latter is initially just a product.
The German auto industry is also reacting with a boycott against Russia in the form of sales freezes. Volkswagen and BMW will no longer sell goods in the largest country in the world for an indefinite period.
Russia is cut off not only from a lot of goods, but also from packages. At least if they come from parcel service providers such as DHL, UPS or FedEX. The transport companies announced that they would no longer deliver packages to Russia or Belarus.
One thing is already clear. Putin punishes not only the Ukrainian people, but also the Russian people with his war. In addition to the boycott of the companies, the Russian currency, the ruble, also plummeted.
Help and solidarity for Ukraine
What is happening in Ukraine right now is terrible. Many families are forced to leave their homes and flee the war. This is traumatic for everyone, but especially for the children. The BILD aid organization “Ein Herz für Kinder” would therefore like to help and is asking for donations together with the local project partners such as the aid organization “humedica” and the action alliance for disaster relief.
If you would like to help and donate, you will find all the information here.
Every cent of your donation reaches the affected children without any deductions!
