Meerkamper Rik Taam no longer starts at European Championships

Meerkamper Rik Taam has withdrawn from the European Athletics Championships for day two of the decathlon. The athlete from De Rijp is suffering from a heel injury.

The 25-year-old North Hollander had a good start to the decathlon on Monday and was sixth in the general classification after the first day.

On Tuesday, hurdler Koen Smet qualified for the semi-finals in the 110 meter hurdles. He ran a time of 13.88 and that was just enough for the semi-final.

Lieke Klaver from Enkhuizen managed to qualify for the final in the 400 meter hurdles. The Dutch Femke Bol is also in the final battle.
