AZ has extended the contracts of young attackers Mexx Meerdink and Iman Griffith. Meerdink is committed until the summer of 2027, while Griffith has signed until mid-2024 with the option for two more seasons.
“I still had a contract for almost a year and a half. It is fantastic that AZ wants to extend so quickly. I never doubted it for a moment to sign. AZ is a wonderful club and it makes me proud to be able to play here,” says the eighteen-year-old Meerdink against AZ.nl†
“My goal for next season is to become a basic player at Jong AZ. I want to perform well there and show that I am ready for the step to AZ 1.”
Griffith wants to quickly go to AZ 1
Griffith (20) is happy with the confidence that AZ has in him. “Last year I didn’t play much, but this season I got new opportunities and I took them. As a result, I have started to develop myself better. I have become more mature in my game, I can finish more controlled and I am training more purposefully.”
At the start of the season, Griffith was elected one of the captains of Jong AZ. “The trainers think that I can take on a leadership role and often took it unconsciously. That they see a captain in me already gives me a good feeling. I always try to remain myself. It’s just a band and I have to make sure that I perform and thus set a good example. I want to join AZ 1 as soon as possible and it is up to me to prove myself every time.”
