Mediocre PSV wins well against Excelsior at half strength

PSV won 4-0 against Excelsior on Saturday evening. Although the result suggests otherwise, it was a very poor performance by the home team. It remained 1-0 in the Philips Stadium for a long time and the visitors lurked for a point.

PSV – Excelsior was, certainly in the first 75 minutes, the most boring game of the entire Eredivisie season. It didn’t look like anything at all. The home team played at a pace where the average grandpa and grandma could also participate. While Excelsior was unable to turn it into an attractive match.

The evening started promisingly because after 10 minutes Luuk de Jong tapped the 1-0 into the goal. An evening to work on the goal difference seemed in the making. But instead of PSV accelerating, things got sloppy by the minute.

Liberating 2-0
A contrast to last week’s away game at NEC. When PSV started the match with a flash and quickly led 3-0. Now it even had to be careful for a long time that Excelsior did not steal a point in Eindhoven.

The liberating 2-0 finally fell after 78 minutes. Xavi Simons, who missed a huge chance earlier, was able to redeem a rebound after a shot from Fabio Silva.

PSV seemed awake and finally the audience could enjoy some nice actions. Silva made it 3-0 five minutes after the 2-0. The final chord was for Erick Gutiérrez who made it 4-0 from a corner. That was also the final result.
